App Setup

Overview–So how does the app and the setup work?  It’s really pretty simple–don’t let these instructions scare you.  Once you set yourself and your child up in app, it takes just seconds to use the app and reap the rewards!

Additionally, after the Setup is complete both you and your child may use THEIR OWN devices to enter and take away points, redeem rewards and select consequences.  And the best part is that family devices AUTOMATICALLY SYNC between each other.  So kids and parents are always on the same page with the Goals, Rewards and Consequences.

First and foremost, one of the parents should enter all the children and parental users into their device.  Note the children should not create new user accounts, only the parents should do this.

End of the Week–Here is what happens with the app at the End of the Week.

  • Every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. the week ends and all points are finalized.  After 6:00 p.m.you cannot go back and enter points for the week.
  • At 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, if the child has ACHIEVED or EXCEEDED their points goal for the week, the points Earned for the week are then “deposited” into the child’s Bank that he or she can use to redeem Rewards.
  • At 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, if the child did NOT achieve their points goal, the points shortfall (the points Goal for the week less the points Earned for the week) is then subtracted from the child’s Bank.
  • The points noted as Earned in the Dashboard screen are then reset to “0” reflecting that a new week has started and a child has to again work towards earning their points goal for the week.

Here is what you should do at the end of the week.

  • If your child has met their weekly points goal (above) then your child has the option to either select a Reward from the Rewards list (Dashboard/Child/Rewards) in the app, otherwise the points will be automatically saved in the Bank for later use.
  • If you child has failed to meet their weekly points  goal (above) then the child and/or the parent should select a Consequence(s) from the Consequence list (Dashboard/Child/Consequences) in the app.

Use of the App Offline (Outside of a Wi-fi area)

  • If you are using Creating Character “for Kids” on an i-Phone or i-Pad that has a cellular connection you can use the app in any fashion.

If you are using Creating Character “for Kids” on an i-Pod that is not connected via a Wi-fi area, then you can enter and delete points, redeem Rewards and select Consequences for the user who the device is registered to.  Otherwise all other functionality will have to wait until you are back in a Wi-fi area.

Common Questions

  1. Why do I get an “error” message when I try to enter points?  Sometimes if you touch the “+” or “-” button too fast the app can’t communicate with the backend servers fast enough.  Just slow down a touch and the app will work fine.
  2. Why do I get an “error” message when I start up the app?  Several people seem to be getting an error message when they startup the app.  The solution that seems to be working until we find a more permanent fix is to log out then log back end.  Once you do this, the error message should go away.
